This beautiful fabric depicts Misty Mountain range on a stunning deep sea tones gradation, from Prussian blue through teal to ocean green

Woven with Cashwool in snowy blue, and ecru Supima cotton, this fabric is very soft, bouncy and has a gentle cush for the shoulders. Cashwool is a superfine mulesing-free merino yarn which is wonderfully breathable making it great for all seasons. A little stretch makes this yarn perfect for carrying newborns right through to toddlerhood.

Supima cotton is a long staple cotton that offers wonderful durability to this fabric as well as a rich shimmer. This Misty Mountains fabric, woven with the hybrid weave technique, is perfect for new wrappers as it is ready to wear straight out of the bag.

Hybrid weave is a special technique that allows us to use multiple colours to highlight different areas of the pattern for a unique look. The finer yarns and denser weave structure create a supportive fabric.

Named after the High Pass which was an important route over the Misty Mountains, this beautiful fabric is perfect for the Middle Earth fans. Thorin Oakenshield and company were captured there by the goblins when they intended to pass through the mountains on their way to the Lonely Mountain in their efforts to reclaim the kingdom for their people in The Hobbit™.

The formidable mountain range, which cuts across Middle-earth is shown in a lovely illustrative style, with a verse sung by Thorin Oakenshield & Co. in The Hobbit™ running in runes along the borders:

Far over the misty mountains cold

To dungeons deep and caverns old

We must away, ere break of day,

To find our long-forgotten gold.

By using BCI cotton we ensure that our cotton meets the Better Cotton Initiative’s high standards of environmental, economic and social responsibility. Our BCI cotton is also organic, meaning it is grown with care and without chemicals keeping the land, and farmers, healthy.

Your choice of wrap will depend on the type of carries you intend/prefer to use and your size and height.

A size 6 wrap is a good choice for a general use sling, which is suitable for most sizes and carries. If you have very long tails in certain carries just wrap them around your body again and tie off.

If you are buying a wrap to share and are unsure which size to buy, it is generally recommended to buy with the main user in mind. If you are carrying a toddler as opposed to a baby, you may need a slightly longer sling.

  1. Lenka Lukac (verified owner)

This has been my first encounter with Oscha’s Cashwool, and I have been a little vary, as I normally feel eaten alive by anything remotely approximating wool (even Merino). However, I am a convert now – from the first touch right out of the bag I wouldn’t have guessed this wonderful wrap has been anywhere near a sheep in any part of its existence. No prickle, no nibble, all cuddle – even when I used it as a shawl running after my toddler and getting hot, my neck was feeling the love, not the wool.
Fair warning though, this Cashwool wonder is not Superwash, so it will call for handwashing.
I was impressed by how floppy, soft and malleable the High Pass felt right out of the bag. It’s definitely one of the cuddliest wraps I’ve held so far – the only competition to it in my stash is our oldest and most broken in Oakenshield Rauros. And while the front side of the High Pass is silky smooth, on the reverse side the woolen yarn and hybrid weaving technique create the most exquisite structure – the pattern literally rises out of the warp, creating a plastic/3D effect. (My guess is it becomes even more pronounced after a wash.)
One thing I noticed, however, was that the thicker woolen yarns seem to be looser in the weave, creating a possibility for pulls to occur. In our very first up I noticed my fear was justified, as I discovered a small pulled thread on one of the tails. Fortunately it was as easy to fix.

Overall, wrapping with the High Pass was a delight.
The “wrong” side texture provides grip where the “right” side supplies glide, making these qualities nicely balanced. It works with you as you drape, tuck, tighten and tie off, and then it will turn into a toddler prison and stay put.
Compared to other hybrid wraps that I own (MM Andúnë, Lonely Mountain Roäc, Lonely Mountain Last Light) MM High Pass has quite a significant stretch or bounce to it, making it a bit harder to tighten properly, especially with a toddler sized, less than cooperative wrappee. On the other hand, the same stretch makes it a bit more forgiving when it comes to the toddler wriggling about, as well as when it comes to a bit of laziness/sloppiness in the tightening. It would also make it an excellent squish wrap, in my opinion.
While it is very toddlerworthy (I could easily carry my daughter for hours in it), and has a decent amount of cush – which I suspect would only increase with wash and use – it is definitely more comfortable in multi layer carries. Most of the other carries made my little girl almost weightless, but I could definitely feel my shoulders after having her some time in the ruck; although even in that case it wasn’t what I would call diggy.
The wrap feels light or thin to medium in hand, and knots tightly. The temperature regulating properties of (cash)wool of course add a big bonus to the qualities. It kept us warm and comfortable in a windy and drizzly day, but didn’t feel too hot at any point (even in Californian winter sunlight, climbing uphill).
Although the pattern and the colour scheme are pretty ubiquitous in Oscha’s offer, Misty Mountains High Pass definitely has some unique qualities to offer.

All in all Misty Mountains High Pass looks and feels luxurious, is very supportive even for bigger toddlers and will forgive a bit of sloppiness in wrapping. Come rain, snow or shine it will keep you and your little one comfortable to enjoy the soft cuddles and snuggles you both deserve.
