This beautiful recycled wool and organic cotton fabric features our newest design; Hobbit™ Quest  on a stunning forest green backdrop. This design shows a section of The Hobbit as the Dwarves and Bilbo travel to the Lonely Mountain (which you can see in the background), they have passed through the Misty Mountains and it shows their escape from Mirkwood, down Forest River into the Long Lake in barrels. If you look closely you can see Smaug in the sky and some of the characters and creatures that helped them like the Eagles, Beorn and Gandalf. This beautiful pattern was designed in collaboration with Cari Johnston, the winner of our Middle Earth design competition.

Ecowool is a recycled wool yarn made from post-consumer waste. This sustainable yarn represents 98% less environmental impact when compared to regular wool. Hobbit™ Quest Greenway is also made up of other reusable waste fibres from the spinning mill that would otherwise go to landfill – mainly cotton but also modal, lyocell, wool, cashmere, linen, silk and other yarns.

Recycled wool is strong and supportive, with temperature regulating properties to keep you warm on cold days, and cool in warm weather. This eco friendly fabric has a good balance of grip and glide and a nice cush for the shoulders making it perfect for carrying bigger children of all ages.

This fabric is also woven with BCI organic cotton. By using it we ensure that our cotton meets the Better Cotton Initiative’s high standards of environmental, economic and social responsibility. Our BCI cotton is also organic, meaning it is grown with care and without chemicals keeping the land, and farmers, healthy.

This item is part of the Middle-earth Collection, inspired by The Lord of the Rings™.

Left or Right Shoulder?

As Ring Slings are worn on one shoulder, you will sometimes see an option for a left or right shoulder sling, this refers to which shoulder the rings sit on, your baby will sit on the opposite hip. For example, if you want to carry your baby on your right hip, you would need to choose a left shoulder Ring Sling.

We have these options because some of our fabrics are directional – it means that the design has a top and a bottom. It is also because a lot of our fabrics have colour gradients. If you choose your preferred shoulder this will ensure that the pattern is placed correctly and/or that the preferred colour is at the top when you are wearing the sling.

Most people will choose the side of the arm they would like to have free as the baby will sit on the opposite hip and restrict your use of that arm somewhat. Imagine holding a baby, which hip do you want to place them on? If it is on your left hip then choose a right shouldered sling and vice versa.

All of our Ring Slings can be worn on either shoulder and we always recommend moving it from side to side regularly to keep your body in balance. Selecting the shoulder side just allows you to have the fabric sitting the way you’d like it on your dominant side.

Highland Pleat or Gathered?

Highland Pleat: This unique shoulder style has been exclusively designed by Oscha. The material is folded and stitched into the pleated shoulder, this means the fabric takes up less space on your shoulder.

Gathered: Widely used in the babywearing community, this style is less structured than the Pleated shoulder meaning it is worn pulled down over your shoulder.

The main difference between the two styles is how the fabric sits on and around your shoulder. The Highland Pleat shoulder has a little more padding and takes up less space on your shoulder, while the Gathered shoulder takes up more space and can be spread right down the top of your arm. While the Pleated shoulder gives much more freedom of movement, the Gathered shoulder allows you to spread the fabric more.

Both of our styles are comfy, if you’re really unsure then either contact us through Messenger or email for assistance or go for the Gathered style as it is slightly more universal.
