This instantly iconic Lonely Mountain pattern is woven in a three colour hybrid weave, the design is inspired by ancient maps and illustrations to create a storybook feel.

The Lonely Mountain, or Erebor, the Dwarven kingdom which was home of the exiled members of King Durin’s folk, led by the King Under the Mountain, Thrór, until the attack and occupation by the dragon Smaug. This towering mountain is quest’s end for Thorin Oakenshield and company, along with Bilbo Baggins, in their efforts to reclaim the kingdom for their people in The HobbitTM.

The runes read “Five feet high the door and three may walk abreast Th. Th.” echoing the description of the Black Door on Thrór’s map. Th. Th. refers to Thrór and Thrain, Thorin’s father and grandfather, who drew the map which leads the company to Smaug’s lair. Nearby Smaug circles the mountain containing his hoard, while the banners proclaim the name of the mountain in flowing script.

Woven with BCI organic cotton and GRS Certified recycled cotton using a hybrid weave technique, this fabric is soft and breathable with a wonderful support. This beautiful fabric is a great all-rounder and will be perfect for little ones through to toddlerhood and beyond.

Hybrid weave is a special technique that allows us to use multiple colours to highlight different areas of the pattern for a unique look.

This item is part of the Middle-earth Collection, inspired by The Lord of the Rings™.

Our Ring Slings are one size fits all. They are around 190 – 200cm long and 61-70cm wide.

Left or Right Shoulder?

As Ring Slings are worn on one shoulder, you will sometimes see an option for a left or right shoulder sling, this refers to which shoulder the rings sit on, your baby will sit on the opposite hip. For example, if you want to carry your baby on your right hip, you would need to choose a left shoulder Ring Sling.

We have these options because some of our fabrics are directional – it means that the design has a top and a bottom. It is also because a lot of our fabrics have colour gradients. If you choose your preferred shoulder this will ensure that the pattern is placed correctly and/or that the preferred colour is at the top when you are wearing the sling.

Most people will choose the side of the arm they would like to have free as the baby will sit on the opposite hip and restrict your use of that arm somewhat. Imagine holding a baby, which hip do you want to place them on? If it is on your left hip then choose a right shouldered sling and vice versa.

All of our Ring Slings can be worn on either shoulder and we always recommend moving it from side to side regularly to keep your body in balance. Selecting the shoulder side just allows you to have the fabric sitting the way you’d like it on your dominant side.

Highland Pleat or Gathered?

Highland Pleat: This unique shoulder style has been exclusively designed by Oscha. The material is folded and stitched into the pleated shoulder, this means the fabric takes up less space on your shoulder.

Gathered: Widely used in the babywearing community, this style is less structured than the Pleated shoulder meaning it is worn pulled down over your shoulder.

The main difference between the two styles is how the fabric sits on and around your shoulder. The Highland Pleat shoulder has a little more padding and takes up less space on your shoulder, while the Gathered shoulder takes up more space and can be spread right down the top of your arm. While the Pleated shoulder gives much more freedom of movement, the Gathered shoulder allows you to spread the fabric more.

Both of our styles are comfy, if you’re really unsure then either contact us through Messenger or email for assistance or go for the Gathered style as it is slightly more universal.
